About this deal

Luckily for her the siblings weren’t cross, they were amused, and pleased to find an bright and interesting young person, quite unlike anyone in their circle of friends. With a lyrical writing style, the author describes vividly this dazzling world and explores the relationships between the characters masterfully. Alice Broadway, Keris Stainton… and who else do I like… I just finished the Alice Goodman Dark Day’s trilogy which is like a sort of amazing regency, supernatural thing.

In grey, 1930s England, Bea has grown up kicking against the conventions of the time, all the while knowing that she will one day have to marry someone her parents choose - someone rich enough to keep the family estate alive. LW: Yeah although I think it’s really nice how into the clothes everyone gets about it like I think everyone really… it’s such a special period for fashion and everyone really likes it. Some things about the main character were a bit repetitive, such as Lou constantly worrying about never finding love or comparing herself to Alice.

And it was actually so much fun like being a party planner but getting unlimited resources and unlimited budget getting to design all these parties that they had it was a really fun part of writing it. Až budete chtít vypnout, přečtěte si to, ale jiné knížky na seznamu knih k přečtení kvůli tom Gr 8 Up–As one half of the sibling team who was “Lou-and-Alice,” Louise is understandably feeling adrift after the wedding of her beloved older sister. Most YA books feature romance in them now and so I often find it difficult to differentiate between them in my mind.

Lou's older sister, Alice, has just gotten married and this has made Lou feel like her life needs to get started -- but she's not sure what exactly she wants her life to look like. Lou soon becomes part of the siblings’ social circle, staying at Cardew House, attending seemingly endless wild parties, receiving lavish gifts from Caitlin, and indulging in banter and myriad misunderstandings with Robert. Luchia Houghton: For those who haven’t yet read A Sky Painted Gold, first of all how would you explain it in your own words?

It made incandescently happy and kinda smiley, which was odd because I'm normally a massive moody cloud. This novel feels like dancing with your friends at midnight, stolen glances across a crowded room, and the warmth of a sunset pouring in through gauzy curtains.

As she grows closer to these two generous characters, she begins to realize there’s more than the eye can see and one can easily be enamored by another’s life when viewing it through rose-colored glasses. She loved it, but she quickly realised that the rules there were quite unlike the world she knew, and that she would have to learn quickly and think on her feet if she was to keep up with her new friends.

Most notably is the Cardews — who are in town for the Summer to stay at their family’s holiday home. I recommend this book if you’re looking for a cozy read to remind you of Summer, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more YA novels from Laura!

They pulled Lou into their world, a world where she would drink champagne, wear elegant dresses, and attend their glamorous house parties. LW: Well I am obsessed with Cornwall it’s a problem… My mum’s side of the family are from Cornwall and my grandparents lived in Cornwall as I was growing up so we used to go there all the time.My main complaint about A Sky Painted Gold, is that I felt like nothing really happened until the last three chapters. She loves Georgette Heyer novels, Fred Astaire films, travelling to far flung places, recipe books, Jilly Cooper, poetry, cosy woollen jumpers, Edith Nesbit, crisp autumn leaves, Jack Gilbert, new stationery, sensation fiction, salted caramel, feminism, Rufus Sewell's cheek-bones, dogs, and drinking lashings of ginger beer. I’m keeping this review to a fairly small one owing to the fact that I had an interview with Laura the day after I’d finished where I spoke a fair bit about how much I loved the book! It tries to emphasize that the glitz is all just a mask (very heavy-handedly so might I add) for very sad people, but it misses the emptiness of Gatsby.
