The red LED sits at the top between the two white LEDs and is activated by holding down the middle button for 3 seconds from off, without having to cycle any white modes, which preserves your eye's night vision. This includes all bank holiday Mondays, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day, and Easter weekend. The battery can be charged inside the battery pack via the magnetic charging point located on the end. The battery goes in a separate battery pack that sits on the back on the headband, which helps to evenly distribute weight.
