It would be hard to find a more perfect opener for this type of collection of songs. It sets the stage for all that follows by defining the basic tone and sound of the set. Just when might be thinking that surely they're going to put out a dud or an underwhelming song, they go and do this and I mean, you could be forgiven for thinking that they couldn't keep up with the spectacular first two songs but then they go and do this. An absolutely incredible song and quite possibly the most metal sounding song on the album... until the gorgeous, beautiful string arrangements come in and it just gives the song a whole other dimension. The band Alice in Chains broke up temporarily after the untimely death of their lead singer, Layne Staley from a drug overdose. They took a bit of time off and then reconnected with a new front runner to produce some more music and tour.Jar Of Flies is without doubt one of the best EPs ever made. For me, the only thing that maybe betters it is You Made Me Realise. I prefer listening to full length albums over EPs, because EPs have a tendency to leave me a little unsatisfied due to their short length they always feel a little incomplete to me, like there's something missing. When I first listened to Jar Of Flies, I thought that was the case again. It definitely had its highlights and some songs stood out, but it just didn't hit me in the same way Dirt did. But that definitely isn't the case, every single song is on here is fantastic. There honestly isn't a weak moment on the album. The flies in one jar would be overfed, while the flies in the other jar would be underfed. The flies that were overfed reproduced rapidly, but then died from overcrowding.
