About this deal

Nine fun short stories about the Nine Worlds, each one told from the point of view of a different character from the Magnus Chase series. You will learn new things about the worlds, and of course about the characters! The first story, “Just Another Decapitated Head,” is set in Asgard and is told from Odin's perspective as he wanders the hallways of Hotel Valhalla, observing the inhabitants, keeping the peace, and trying to decide on a new captain to lead his Valkyries after the death of the previous one. [28] [26] In the middle also getting annoyed by his son, Thor who had decided to take a jog through the nine worlds and was now in the garden of Valhalla. Magnus Chase – The protagonist of the series, a 16-year-old demigod son of the god Frey as well as the cousin of Greek demigod Annabeth Chase. After his mother was killed by wolves when he was 14, Magnus ended up living on the streets until his death and induction into Valhalla by Samirah. There is one thing in which I can always count on Riordan to do and that is to make just relax and have a good laugh. This was, of course, no exception. Amir is the first human with Clear Sight to gain the ability, while all other humans with the ability were born with it.

AMIR, YOU look hideous.” My fiancée, Samirah al-Abbas, stared at my outfit in horrified disbelief. “Really?” I looked down at myself. “But it’s a tux!” “A baby-blue tux!” “With a matching ruffled shirt and floppy bow tie,” I said defensively. “My uncle loaned it to me. I think it’ll impress your grandparents, don’t I shouldn’t have been startled that he could speak – after all, I’m dead too and I can talk just fine – but I near about jumped out of my skin when he did.” Amir appears in the beginning to bid Sam goodbye. He is concerned because it is Ramadan and she is fasting. He gives Magnus a bag of falafels for the trip and drives off. The seventh story is set in Niflheim, and it is written by Mallory Keen. In this story, Mallory found herself trapped in Niflheim, and the only way out was by climbing a tree guarded by a dragon. Mallory taught the dragon some new insults, granting her passage up the tree and away from Niflheim. The eighth story is set in Vanaheim, and it is written by Halfborn Gunderson. In this story, Halfborn needed dragon scales to make a gift for Mallory, so he travelled to Vanaheim, an idyllic realm, and killed three peaceful dragons. After assuring the peaceful citizens that the dragons would respawn, Halfborn returned home. The introduction is written by Helgi, the hotel manager. He welcomes new residents and thanks them for their sacrifice. He then explains that the book is meant to answer any questions they may have about the experiences of their new existence, and asks that they consult the book before bothering him. [24] Noteworthy Middle Grade and YA Sequels: October 2018". Publishers Weekly . Retrieved November 9, 2018. What can I say about this one? Not much I don't think. It's a nice collection of short stories that take us to this almost ridiculous adventures that our beloved characters are encountered with there is no greater purpose to them or great problem. Loki – the Norse god of mischief, lies, and deceit. He is the father of demigod Samirah Al-Abbas and mother of demigod Alex Fierro.

MY EINHERJAR have a saying: Some days you are the ax, some days you are the decapitated head. I like it so much, I’m having T-shirts made for the Hotel Valhalla gift shop. As the All-Father, god of wisdom, king of the Aesir, and ruler of all Asgard, I am usually the ax. Strong. Powerful. In control. Usually. But one day not long ago . . . well, let’s just say things went awry. It started when Hunding, bellhop of Valhalla, informed me of a disturbance in the Feast Hall of the Slain. “Disturbance?” I asked as I opened the hall door. Splat! “A food fight, Lord Odin.” I peeled a slab of uncooked Saehrimnir from my cheek. “So I see.” It wasn’t just any food fight. It was a Valkyrie food fight. Above me, a dozen or more Each story/adventure has a different narrator and a different, senseless, purpose, which I like without any complaints but the idea that they are all connected, somewhat, through this one comic event was really nice. Most people would have been relieved when a potentially deadly task turned out to be non-life-threatening. I am not most people. I prefer to earn things, not have them handed to me.”The list of mythical beings includes Surt, Ymir, Utgard-Loki, Gerd, Elves, Dwarves, Valkyries, and the Norns. Each entry includes the being's classification, homeworld, appearance, and what they are best known for. The extra material includes a threat from Surt, a poem by Gerd, a message from the Alfheim news team, diary entries, and a few short stories. [24] The third story is set in Nidavellir, and it is written by Blitzen. In this story, Mimir, an ancient god, told Blitzen to rescue Thor from an assassination attempt by Alviss, a dwarf. Blitzen succeeds in rescuing Thor, but Blitzen is forced to flee from other dwarves who are chasing him because they believe Blitzen has assaulted Alviss out of his own volition. Blitzen accidentally escaped by falling off a cliff into a river. The fourth story is set in Alfheim, and it is written by Hearthstone. In this story, Hearthstone had been talking to T.J. when Hearthstone’s bracelet started shining. This meant that Inge, Hearthstone’s friend, was in trouble, so Hearthstone transported himself to the relevant location, defeated a troll, and rescued Inge. The Hammer of Thor is the second book in the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series and was released on October 4, 2016. In this book, Magnus receives a quest from Otis, Thor's goat and discovers that the hammer of Thor, Mjölnir, is missing. He embarks on a quest with Samirah, Hearthstone, Blitzen, and Alex Fierro, a genderfluid child of Loki to retrieve it. However, Utgard-Loki reveals that the Giant Thrym has the hammer, and tells the group to retrieve the Skofnung Sword. Regular Loki arranges a marriage between Samirah and the Giant so as to free himself with the sword. At the wedding, Alex takes Samirah's place and tries to stop Magnus's Uncle Randolph from freeing Loki. However, she fails to do so, and Loki is freed. The group is honored for retrieving Thor's hammer but dissatisfied for not stopping Loki, and are given another mission to catch Loki and stop him from bringing about Ragnarök. [6] It was hilarious, not as funny as the series of course (we all know Magnus Chase is talking & walking in Sarcasm!, & nothing can win against that!) X" / Odin – Odin is the king of gods. He pretended to be a half-troll named "X", but in reality, he was trying to watch Hotel Valhalla.

READY FOR the next one?” I lip-read T.J.’s question and nodded. He slid a flash card with a handwritten swear word on it across the table, then watched me with gleeful anticipation. Smiling faintly, I opened my mind and focused on the dagaz runestone in my hand. Magic flowed through me like water through a pebbled stream. The fifth story, “My Eighth-Grade Physics Actually Comes in Handy,” takes place in Jotunheim, and is written from the perspective of Samirah al-Abbas. Odin, attempting to keep Ragnarok from being triggered, sends her to Jotunheim to inspect an egg. If this egg were to hatch, Ragnarok would start. Samirah manages to use Thor to distract Eggther who guards the egg, giving her enough time to determine that the egg was not hatching, and to take a picture of it for Odin. [29] [26]Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry. Halfborn Gunderson – A resident at Hotel Valhalla. He was a Viking until he died and has been at Valhalla for 1200 years. A Berserker, he has two axes and is very violent. The final story takes place in Muspellheim, and it is written by Alex Fierro. In this story, Alex received information detailing a recruitment event against the gods of Asgard taking place in Muspellheim. Alex travels to Muspellheim, dissuades the defectors from joining Surt, the antagonist. After defeating Surt, Alex rallies with her friends.
